Nevertheless, there are many people who do not use their vote: in 2013, voter turnout in bavaria was 63.6 percent.
But a democracy thrives on participation and diversity. The "network for political education in bavaria the board therefore wanted to raise awareness of democratic principles shortly before the state elections and invited people to the "long night of democracy" of 15. At 16. September a. Ten municipalities in bavaria are taking part in the campaign, one of them is kronach. The organization is run by the volkshochschule kreis kronach (VHS) together with the kreisjugendring and with the participation of the "partnership for democracy through. Project coordination is in the hands of sabine nachtrab, a pedagogical staff member at the VHS.
"We want to put together a diverse program that shows democracy in its many facets and also offers a fun factor", she explains. For the planning meeting, it invited many actors who want to make the "long night" a success filling with ideas and deeds: secondary schools, girls’ cafe, caribou world store, kronach synagogue action group, cultural cafe, district administration office, active citizenship, to name but a few. If all the ideas that these creative minds came up with at the second meeting were put into practice, the "long night" was allowed to unfold extending far into the morning hours. However, the planning provides for the event to take place on 15. September the time between 6 p.M. And midnight before. The main venue will be the kuhnlenzpassage, but there will be a number of decentralized actions in the city center.
A stage program, hands-on activities and a market of opportunities provide for variety. In a chill-out zone, people can relax and enjoy delicious food and drinks.
Which of the many ideas will be put into practice will become clear in the next few weeks. But there is one thing that the participants agree on: "we want an event that is different."
